Welcome,

We are glad you are here

Our Philosophy

At Madrona, we believe that how a child first experiences learning shapes everything that follows. Our responsibility is not simply to prepare children for kindergarten — it is to help them become people who are curious, resilient, and deeply at home in themselves.

This belief is the foundation of The Madrona Method™.

A Blended Approach

The Madrona Method™ draws from the most enduring and respected traditions in early childhood education — not to follow any single philosophy rigidly, but to weave their strongest principles into something cohesive and whole.

From Montessori, we take the conviction that children are capable, that independence is cultivated rather than granted, and that the environment itself is a teacher. From Waldorf, we take an abiding respect for rhythm, imagination, and the unhurried pace of childhood. From Reggio Emilia, we take the practice of emergent curriculum — following children's genuine curiosity as the starting point for all learning — and the belief that documentation makes thinking visible.

Together, these traditions form a way of working with children that is structured where structure serves them, and flexible where flexibility honors who they are.

All of our staff are certified educators in The Madrona Method™program.

Social-Emotional Learning at the Center

Academic readiness matters. But the research is clear: children learn best when they feel safe, seen, and emotionally regulated. At Madrona, social-emotional learning is not a supplement to our curriculum — it is its foundation.

We use dedicated practices — including the Safe Place and the Peace Table — to give children language for their inner lives and tools for navigating conflict with dignity. We believe that a child who knows how to identify a feeling, ask for what they need, and repair a relationship is better prepared for life than one who can recite the alphabet under duress.

Love & Logic

Our guidance approach is grounded in the principles of Love & Logic — a framework built on the understanding that children grow through making choices, experiencing natural consequences, and being met with consistent empathy rather than control.

The "love" means we set limits because we care, and we do so without shame or coercion. The "logic" means we allow children to encounter the results of their own decisions in safe, age-appropriate ways — and we trust them to learn from what they experience.

We do not manage children. We walk alongside them.

The Environment as the Third Teacher

Every space at Madrona is intentional. Materials are carefully selected to invite open-ended exploration, creativity, and deep play. Natural elements, soft light, and calm aesthetics are not incidental — they are part of how we communicate to children that this is a place where they are safe, where they belong and where their work and growth are taken seriously.

Our classrooms are prepared for the children who are in them, not for a generic cookie cutter version of childhood.

Trauma-Informed, Inclusively Practiced

Our educators are trained in trauma-informed care, because we understand that some children carry experiences that affect how they show up in a room. We meet every child where they are, without assumption and without judgment. We are also committed to inclusive practice — building the skills and structures to support every child's unique developmental profile.

A Note to Families

Choosing an early learning environment is one of the most significant decisions a family makes. We do not take lightly that you are entrusting us with your child during some of the most formative years of their life.

At Madrona, we consider families genuine partners in their child's education. . We invite you in — to observe, to ask questions, to understand the reasoning behind what you see, and to share what only you know about your child.

We grow children here. We are glad you found us.
