Welcome to the Beginning

Who We Are

Madrona Children’s Academy is an Early Learning Center hosting an all day Preschool Program for our communities working families.

Traditionally Preschool is a 2-4 hour class held a few times a week.

We realize the importance of a strong foundation for early learners and know that many families do not have the option of committing to a traditional Preschool schedule due to work obligations. Our solution is Madrona Children’s Academy. Where parents and teachers work as a team for children’s success!

We offer children a unique early learning opportunity to develop cognitive, social, emotional, and multi-sensory skills in an environment immersed in visual arts, music, theater arts, storytelling, dance, and movement.

Our daily flow includes art experiences, free play in a variety of interest centers, circle time, kindergarten readiness activities and LOTS of fun!

Our Hours of Operation are from 6:30am - 6pm Monday - Friday

Our Curriculum:

At Madrona, we practice Emergent Curriculum. We feel that children are most successful at learning when curriculum experiences are tailored to their interests, strengths, needs, and lived realities. The teachers at Madrona use observations and social discussion throughout a students day as a tool for constructing the curriculum content. Meaningful learning opportunities are then provided in support of key academic & social skills relevant to Early Childhood.

As students master these skills, our teachers respond by enriching the learning experience by increasing the difficulty of tasks. As children repeatedly confront and master these “achievable challenges,” they come to view themselves as competent learners which aids in the development of a lifelong passion for learning.

In emergent curriculum, teachers, parents and children have initiative and make decisions. This power to impact decisions and classroom direction means that curriculum is also negotiated between what interests children and what adults know is necessary for children’s education and development. Thus, emergent curriculum is never built on children’s interests alone; The values and concerns of children and adults working together help the classroom culture evolve!

Our Guidance:

At Madrona, we follow the principles of Love & Logic.

The “Love” in Love & Logic means that we love children so much that we are willing to set and enforce limits. This “Love” also means that we do so with sincere compassion and empathy.

The “Logic” in Love and Logic happens when we allow children to make decisions, affordable mistakes and experience natural or logical consequences. When we balance this with sincere empathy, they develop the following logic:

“The quality of their lives depends on the quality of their choices.”

With an unshakable knowledge that they are genuinely loved and respected, children have the opportunity to learn this life long lesson and important skill that we feel fosters confident and successful adults.

We use humor, hope, and empathy to build up the adult/child relationship
We offer unfailing respect and dignity for our students
We teach consequences and healthy decision-making

Give the Gift of Education

Early Childhood Education gives children the building blocks for a lifetime of social/emotional and academic success. The early years of a child’s development set the stage for their future, and provide not only direct benefits to the child and immediate family, but the community at large. Children who attend early learning programs are less likely to need special education and are more likely to finish high school and go to college. This benefits the economic vitality of the workforce and the health of the community at large. Studies show that every dollar invested in early childhood education generates $7 in the future…
